Perhaps small town life isn’t for everyone—the “cultures” of small towns and large cities are different. People have their places, and many times it is as simple as that. But, if nothing else, those differences—whether real of perceived—should serve as an example of why some divisions are not easily reconciled.
On page 21 of today’s paper, there is a story about a Florida family—Jeanette and Michael Tristani—that moved from Miami to North Dakota because of the benefits of living in a small town. Hazelton, ND offered an escape from the “crime, traffic, hurricanes, and the high cost of living in Florida…” But the couple is trying to move back to Miami because small town life is too cliquey.
