Should be better example for kids

Years ago, when the kids were little, we were driving along and saw a car pulled over with a police cruiser on the side of the road. One daughter remarked that the kids in that car must have been naughty that the mom had had to stop on the edge of the road with the police for backup. Boy, did I have them brainwashed.

What's best format for a political debate?

It’s still almost three months away, but I’ve been giving some thought to the debate the Daily News will sponsor Wednesday, April 11, at the Johnny Carson Theatre in Norfolk among Republican candidates for a U.S. Senate seat.

This won’t be the first such debate the Daily News has sponsored, but it’s been a while. The most recent one was between Dave Heineman and Tom Osborne when both were seeking the Republican gubernatorial nomination.

He’s been called Hip and J-Hip. He is my friend and classmate: Jacob Hipke. Jacob has a high aptitude for sports, geography and all history classes. He is a dynamic force in all trivia games that involve sports or history. Every time someone in my class has a history or sports question, we don’t scour the Internet for the answer.We just turn around and ask Jacob. It doesn’t even take Jacob a second; he tells you the answer like it’s common knowledge.
